Sahara: Italy Welcomes Morocco's 'Serious and Credible' Efforts within UN Framework
Rabat, 9th November 2021 - Italy welcomed, Tuesday, the "serious and credible" efforts led by Morocco within the framework of the United Nations to settle the Sahara issue.
Italy welcomes "the serious and credible efforts led by Morocco within the framework of the United Nations and encourages all parties to continue their commitment in a spirit of realism and compromise," said a joint statement issued after a telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy, Luigi Di Maio.
During this interview, Di Maio referred to Italy's position on the Sahara issue, as expressed in the Declaration on the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership, signed on November 1, 2019 in Rabat, reaffirming the full Italian support to the efforts of the UN Secretary General to continue the political process, in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council, including Resolution 2602 of October 29, 2021, added the same source.
In the Declaration on the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership, Italy had welcomed "the serious and credible efforts led by Morocco" for the resolution of the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, reaffirming its support "to the efforts of the UN Secretary General to pursue the political process aimed at achieving a just, realistic, pragmatic, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution" to this issue.
